Well, I’ve pissed off the Facebook design team, now it’s time to piss of David and Marco (although I really hope I don’t). I’m going to come out and say it: I really, really dislike the new Tumblr beta. It feels clunky and awkward, and I think it’s a huge step backwards in exchange for a few small usability improvements (wider dashboard, larger type, easy tumblog switching). Of course, I have no idea how far along it is, and I’m sure it’s a work in progress, but I got bored this weekend and decided that instead of posting some whiny diatribe about why I didn’t like it, I could mockup what I think it should look like. It’s still pretty rough and undeveloped - I’d by no means present this as a finished product - but I thought I’d share it nonetheless. Click the image above (or here) to view my mockup. I like tmblg’s design a whole lot better than the beta version. Yet, there is something lacking. I cant really figure it out. But maybe of something lacking, there is too much going on. I do agree regarding the new Facebook design.

Maybe its because they tried to keep everything too simple that the new Facebook design got so complicated when it came to turn it into something easy to the eye.

What if Tumblr was to call 4 a “contest” or something like that to see what people can come up with the design? It would be something interesting to see. Maybe people will get more suggestions in of what they would like to see on the Dashboard… but that is only a suggestion.
